Old World Style with Some New World Love !

Chateau Jouclay Cabardes 2006
Wine makers no matter where they are located within the wine world need to respond to consumer demands. So many wine makers in the Old World, most European countries, are responding to consumers love for new world wine. They are doing this by working to create riper fruits and greater fruit concentration. Bigger, richer, lusher wines are currently the order of the day - but remember to always expand your palate and try new things.
Old World Wine fans my need to leave the room for this wine. A blend of 60% Merlot, 20% Syrah and 20% Grenache.
This wine tastes like a red wine that has taken a course of steroids. It has big, beefy fruit with massive fruit concentration. It you like your red wines big and powerful this is a wine for you.
On the nose the softness and richness of the merlot dominates contributing aromas of plums, blueberry and black cherry. The syrah and Grenache lend a hand with some red fruits but help stop the wine from becoming a totally over the top fruit bomb.
On the palate the first thing that will hit you is the great balance and mouth feel to the wine. Followed by soft plums, delicate strawberries and soft squishy blueberries. Juicy tannins on the finish of the wine really help keep the fruits in check and prevent it from becoming flabby and bloated.
A tasty wine that has lovely fruit, just the right about of oak and good structure - if you are a fan of new world styled wines this wine is a must for you to try !

Thanks for a comprehensive review, which might easily start a bit of a discussion about what authenticity in a wine might mean in a wine world that’s now willy-nilly global.
I’ll have to try to organize a nose around in the Cabardès one day. I suspect there’d be some interesting pickings.
